With the federal election approaching, I decided to test the accessibility of the voting process for people with vision impairments!
I rang the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) to request a Braille copy of the official voting guide. After explaining my request, I was told that the guide is on its way.
While it’s great to hear that this option is available, it’s important to continue testing and advocating for accessibility at every level. Access to information is a fundamental part of being able to participate in our democracy, and I hope to see these kinds of accommodations made more readily available and well-publicised in the future.
