Accessibility Update: Ivanhoe Station Works Scheduled for 30 May – 1 June

A young woman uses her long cane to find the platform edge on a railway station. Tracks run through the center, with platforms, buildings, and a bridge in the background.

Ivanhoe Station will see some disruptions next weekend due to scheduled maintenance. From 1pm Friday 30 May to 10pm Sunday 1 June, temporary car park closures will be in place. Additionally, from 9pm Friday 30 May to last service Sunday 1 June, buses will replace trains on the Hurstbridge Line between Clifton Hill and Eltham.

While these works will cause inconvenience for commuters, they also mark a significant step forward for accessibility at Ivanhoe Station. Public Transport Victoria (PTV) has confirmed with us that Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSI) will be installed on both platforms during this time – a long-awaited improvement for accessibility at this station.

This installation follows years of persistent advocacy from Lilly’s family, community members, and disability access advocates. Despite Ivanhoe Station being overlooked for years, a determined campaign – backed by over 10,000 petition signatures – has ensured this issue received the attention it deserved.

If you’re in the area over the weekend, we’d love to see updates! Feel free to share photos of the progress in the comments.
